So many kids are so unattractive nowadays as a result of the obesity epidemic that one wants nothing to do with them.

In some places like Texas, CP has never gone away. And for a 10 year old this is still the acceptable, court-supported, educator-supported result. Makes me wish I were Canadian.[/IMG]

It must be extremely embarassing for a ten year old boy to have his bare backside displayed for the whole world to see. The photo is likely to comeback and haunt him for years. Some parents are very cruel.

How sad that he was overweight and not more fun to hit.
Great, two responses and not one gives a damn about the brutality of the coach. Makes me proud to be human being…not.

It is a little surprising that it went nowhere in the courts. If it were my son, things would have been handled differently and right after it happened.

I suggest that it does not imply “not one gives a damn about the brutality of the coach” but the exact reverse!
First cruelty = the paddling
Second cruelty = naming the victim and displaying his bare buttocks to the World.
No ten year old should be allowed to consent to such degradation.

I admit I agree with the use of corporal punishment and opn the bar bottom, but this goes too far. I think it is wrong, even if the boy agreed, to have his bare bottom photographed and put on the internet.More to the point I cannot understand his parents doping this. The boy wll have to live with this for the rest of his life.
Secondly, this is not a picture of reasonable corporal punishment but of a boy that has had his bottom paddled very hard. I would say that this punishment was excessive. The wooden paddle has always in my view been drastic in the amount it bruised. I have always opposed it because of the bruising. However six strokes with a thin flexible cane would, in most cases sting far more than this paddle and not leave the bottom bruised or cut like this.
People are quick to condem the use in English schools of the cane, but not so ready to do so about the use of the paddle in Americian schools

Halliwell, what does “compounded cruelty” mean?I suggest that it does not imply “not one gives a damn about the brutality of the coach” but the exact reverse!

My apologies. I had not noticed the heading when I posted the remark. Once posted, I could not alter the comment.
However, I do think the brutality of the beating is far worse than parents allowing the posting of the picture particularly seeing the boy consented to it.

Nasty bruises – but the little horror probably deserved it. But don’t run away with the idea that the cane doesn’t cause bruises too. I got 3 strokes of the cane when not much older than this Justin brat and had some mighty impressive bruises too. Sorry – no photo.

I don’t believe any little boy deserves that sort of treatment for any reason. And it is interesting that you would dub the boy “a little horror” without knowing at all the circumstances surrounding the incident. Very telling.

I have seen the similar result from a cane and find doing that sort of thing to a child whether it be cause by paddle or cane to be equally abusive. I am not sure what the cane taught you as a boy…but apparently compassion or an aversion to child abuse was not among the things you learned.
